bad, unfunny things

This one-off post has inspired a tempest in a teapot. Actually, not really a tempest. More of a mild tropical depression. Mmmmm. Tropics.

Anyhow. Heidi asks, quite seriously, "What kind of environment gives rise to those sorts of jokes? And which is best?" Glorfindel of Gondolin, a new-to-me blog, actually reveals her grades.

Goodness dearie me.

Apparently we are not to joke about serious subjects like the existence of a curve in law school. It is Not Funny. It might indicate a Bad Environment.

Yikes!

ps. I think Carey (also known as "he who posts his grades") is a he.

Thanks, everybody! I'm delighted that I was picked. :)

Michael, I can't believe me (who is constantly mistaken for a male) got that wrong! Alas.

I think anyone not intimately familiar with the Silmarillion or the Lord of the Rings might reasonably infer that "Glorfindel" was a she. The only moral condemnation you'll ever get from me is not having read Tolkien at least eight times! ;)

A quick lowdown on the elf from Gondolin is here:

(not sure if your comments system takes html...)

I wasn't saying you shouldn't joke! I was actually thinking, wistfully, that joking would be better than Not Saying Anything at all.

If you ever think I'm saying you shouldn't be laughing at something, you're probably wrong, unless we're talking something drastically immoral, like chicken death.

Congratulations on making the Journal Weekly Top Five. John Scalzi--and he's got great taste--has you bookmarked, I don't know how I've missed you all this time. Nice place you got here. I'll be back, for sure.

Welcome all new folks! I am delighted to be an Editor's pick. :)

Heidi - I solemnly swear I will never, ever laugh about chicken tragedies. I promise you.

Carey - It doesn't take html comments, which is annoying. However! I have now read about Glorfindel using handy cut & paste. I promise I shall never mistake elven gender again. Or, at least I'll try. :)

T! It's about time you made the Top 5! I raise me glass of wine in your honor.

Meanwhile, I see I have quite a bit of catching up to do here. I've got to visit these links to see what's up. I love a good rant that spawns more of the same.
